When the Cro Magnons destroyed the Neanderthals, they set off the evolutionary impulse to obliterate “the other.” No matter how many humans are on the planet, I think there will only be a statistically insignificant number who are actually compelled to understand our place in this vast universe. We are 30,000 years down the road of “We Are Number One.” Throw God into the mix, and you’ve got the world as we know it.
